"Endymion"
-
What's in a name?
A thing of beauty is a joy forever;
Its loveliness increases,
it will never pass into nothingness.
This extract from the poem Endymion
by
John Keats (1795-1821)
served as inspiration to name our
yacht.
The “amphitrite” Concept
ENDYMION is a true world class cruising yacht and has the
pedigree to prove it. Lofted by the prestigious
Wauquiez yard in France as hull number 130 in the successful
amphitrite series, she combines the warmth of traditional European craftsmanship with the
speed and grace of modern yacht design. The Amphitrite is one of the most exceptional offshore cruising ketches, whose qualities are known only to a privileged few, sailing around the world. She is
a reflection of the vast boat building experience of the renowned
Wauquiez shipyard, designed by Donald Pye as a remarkably stiff yacht that can sail at 35o
from the apparent wind without losing significantly on speed. Sail area is divided for ease of handling, even with a family crew of only two.
Endymion has a powerful Perkins Diesel engine and handles well in harbor. What a wonderful clean deck
layout for happy holidays! There are but few boats of the same
size offering such comfort: the magnificent saloon and two big
separate cabins with 2 berths and toilets each. Every
detail has been thought of for in this very special boat, and
thanks to the best joiners, the interior of Endymion shows the
quality and warm luxurious polish of Asian teak, the real
“Wauquiez Style”. Furniture is molded to the hull for
strength. All lockers are vented and all non-opening ports
solidly bolted. There is incredible storage and easy
access to all areas.
Endymion has been greatly customized below
and can only be described as extremely spacious for her size to
fulfill all the need of a cruising couple with occasional
visiting guests or crew. Good heat insulation and sound proofing
are accomplished by the thickness of the side planking and the
deck molding. Custom drapes with sun backing are fitted
throughout the whole boat.
1995 we installed a Fisher Panda 6 kVA Generator and two oversized 16000 BTU
digitally
controlled marine aircon units. The aircons can be operated with
shore power and at sea using the generator. Purists may consider
air-conditioning a luxury on a been installed sailboat but
in the tropics it is very useful item for real comfort, being
able to dehumidify and cool down the whole boat quickly to a
more comfortable temperature level when needed. Operating an
aircon at evenings for only one to two hours will guarantee you
good nights sleep during very humid periods.
The aircons can also be reversed for heating purpose in the
higher latitudes. There is additional ducting provision for an
central heating. Only the diesel heater itself has not yet. |
